i have failed to find a healthy muesli that hasn’t left me feeling heavy and unsatisfied so… i created my own!

Not too sweet and full of good stuff, you will want this as a staple in your pantry!

Here are some great tips to consider when creating your own muesli!

  1. Use a ceramic dish instead of an oven tray when toasting your muesli in the oven so that your mix browns evenly and slowly.

  2. Buy whole seeds and grind fresh as you need as ground seeds (especially flax) oxidize and go rancid quickly. Add ground flax seeds and spice to muesli last, after you have toasted the rest of the ingredients.

  3. Only toast your muesli till it takes on a slight brown colour. This means that it is only ‘lightly’ toasted and ensures that you are preserving the natural, healthy oils in the nuts and seeds.

  4. Store Muesli in an airtight container and keep in fridge to preserve the quality of the oils from the nuts & seeds.

  5. Buy Organic where possible. This reduces the toxicity/chemical load on your body from consuming pesticides, herbicides that are sprayed on conventionally grown crops.

ingredients

  • 3 cups Organic Oats

  • 3/4 cup Organic Buckwheat Grouts

  • 3/4 cup Slivered Almonds

  • 1/2 cup Walnut Pieces

  • 1/4 cup Almond Meal

  • 1/2 cup Sunflower Seeds

  • 1/2 cup Pumpkin Seeds

  • 1/4 cup Sesame Seeds

  • 1/4 cup Chia Seeds

  • 4T Coconut Oil / Organic Cold Pressed Olive Oil

  • 1/4 cup Maple Syrup

  • 1/4 tsp Himalayan Salt

  • 1 cup Coconut Flakes

  • 4 tsp Ground Cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp Ground Ginger

  • 20 Cloves or 1 tsp Ground Cloves

  • 1/2 cup Flax Seeds

  • 3/4 cup Organic Hemp Hearts

METHOD

  • Preheat Oven to 170 degrees celsius.

  • Grind Whole Cloves & Flax Seeds together in a high-speed blender. Set aside along with the Organic Hemp Hearts, Coconut Flakes & Cinnamon.

  • Place all other ingredients in a ceramic dish. Stir well and fan bake for 30 minutes stirring every 10 minutes.

  • Remove from oven and mix in the ground flax seed mix.

  • Cool and store in an air-tight container in fridge.
