i have failed to find a healthy muesli that hasn’t left me feeling heavy and unsatisfied so… i created my own!
Not too sweet and full of good stuff, you will want this as a staple in your pantry!
Here are some great tips to consider when creating your own muesli!
Use a ceramic dish instead of an oven tray when toasting your muesli in the oven so that your mix browns evenly and slowly.
Buy whole seeds and grind fresh as you need as ground seeds (especially flax) oxidize and go rancid quickly. Add ground flax seeds and spice to muesli last, after you have toasted the rest of the ingredients.
Only toast your muesli till it takes on a slight brown colour. This means that it is only ‘lightly’ toasted and ensures that you are preserving the natural, healthy oils in the nuts and seeds.
Store Muesli in an airtight container and keep in fridge to preserve the quality of the oils from the nuts & seeds.
Buy Organic where possible. This reduces the toxicity/chemical load on your body from consuming pesticides, herbicides that are sprayed on conventionally grown crops.
