Waking up and fueling your body by hydrating & packing in some nutrients is the best way to start your day.
Here’s how I do it.
After an overnight intermittent fast (around 14 hours), my morning ritual always starts with a glass of warm lemon water. I sip on this while I get lunches made for my 3 boys. Not only does this help to hydrate my body, but it also wakes up my digestive system and helps to flush out toxins. Lemons are a great addition to include in your daily life as they are a rich source of Vitamin C and high in Anti-Oxidants.
Breakfast is around 8am and this usually consists of a smoothie. Mornings are often stressful so providing nutrients and hydration by consuming a smoothie is perfect, as it has that all-around goodness that gets soaked into the body without us needing to use much energy for digestion! (Less energy/work to digest = Less stress for the body!) A smoothie is also a great way to ‘drink’ breakfast on the run!
Try the recipe below and notice how your energy/stress levels improve!
go to smoothie.
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups Filtered Water
30 grams Organic Protein Powder - pea/brown rice/hemp (avoid whey)
1/2 a small Banana
1/2-1 cup Organic Blueberries (frozen or fresh)
1 Tbsn Healthy Fat (Chia Seeds / LSA / Organic Coconut Cream/ Avocado)
1tsp Organic Greens Powder or big handful of Organic Spinach/Courgette/Bok Choy
Optional:
Small Knob of Ginger - GREAT in winter for a hint of warmth & spice. Ginger has great anti-inflammatory properties & helps with digestion/detoxification.
Add ½ cup Organic Soaked Oats. Soaking your oats overnight makes the oats easier to digest and allows your body to process and use more of the nutrients found in them.
Method
Blend all ingredients in a high speed blender and tip into a large smoothie cup.
Enjoy at room temperature. If you are currently experiencing digestive issues, drink over an hour to avoid bloating.
Note: This smoothie recipe is an incredible way to get in just under 3 cups of water over breakfast! Your body will really thank you for it! Feel free to get creative and swap out the berries with other fruit. For a smoothie bowl, you can reduce the water to just 1/2 cup and blend. Then I top the bowl off with some of my yummy Seed & Nut Muesli and some fresh/thawed Organic Fruit. Enjoy with an Organic Green Tea to ensure you are still taking care of that water intake.
Delish! xx
